Hello guys. After the post of How to make up as a beginner, I thought of bringing you the different names and uses of the brushes you need for your make up.

Remember that you don’t need to own all of these brushes to have a great makeup and some of these brushes actually have more than one use. So you can actually have a few and still have a great make up.

Foundation brush

This brush is one of the most basic makeup brushes you need for makeup. If you have been applying Your foundation with your fingers, it is time to stop it and look for a foundation brush. I used to do it all the time, but since I learned that there was a foundation brush, and its importance it made it easier to apply my foundation and made my makeup to have a smooth finished look. The bristle of the foundation brush are tightly packed for a great application.

Foundation Brush

For application, start putting the make up in the middle of your face and then use the brush to blend outwards.

Concealer brush

This is also one other very essential brushes needed for your makeup. This brush is flat, smaller at the smaller end of the spectrum and also taller at the middle of the brush. They are used to apply concealer product on the dark circles under your eyes, areas of discoloration, scars and breakout.

In application, use the brush to add 3 dots of your product on your skin, and dab the concealer to blend it into your skin and you can use the tip of your brush to get to areas not easily reachable.

This brush allows you to comb your brows and lashes. Before doing your brows its always good to comb the hair of your brow so they look aligned and organized. This is the perfect brush for it. The Angled brush

This is one of my favorite brushes. The angled nature of the brush allows it to define your brows when drawing your brows giving it that perfect curvy nature. It is also used to fill areas which are not dense or scanty areas. I.e u can use it to fill in your brows so that they don’t look scanty and most importantly, use this brush to clean up the edges of your brows or lips using concealer.

Oval brushes

these brushes are oval in nature and come in diverse sizes and thus have a wide range of uses. They have more dense bristles than other brushes therefore your product will not sock into the brush instead it will just be at the surface of the brush thus your product usage will be minimal. The rounded edges of the brush, their tilted tip and firm grip will enable you to have more control of the product that your are applying.

While looking at options for gifts for my oldest granddaughters I was considering some kind of make-up kit. I know this might seem rather odd, but it is something they have specifically asked for, and even given me some options on what they would like!

I have a list of options with their dream list, as they like to call it, so before selecting one or the other from a makeup brush sets they listed, I wanted to get an education on them. This post has provided the detail I needed, and after going through the many brushes have selected a few that will fit the requirements.

As a guy who has no experience with such gear, I really could not be sure what to get. If we were talking paint brushes, I would be in my comfort zone. These brushes are far from that. This post has been priceless for me today. I think I am going to be able to build a nice package of presents for my granddaughters that will impress them. Thanks!

    Hi Lerakinz,

Nice write-up. I personally do not make up but I found the title of your article very interesting. It is interesting that applying make up is such a delicate work of art and even requires talent, tools and skill to produce an excellent look. A nice followup to this article would be “the best way to remove make up for a healthy and vibrant skin”.

    Thanks again

I had absolutely no idea that there are so many brushes out there… The only brushes I own and use are the Brow or Lash brush and the double ended eyebrow and eyelash comb and brush.  As I don’t wear make-up, I have never tried using make-up brushes.  It seems like a lot of work applying all the different bits… Does it take long to put on makeup or is it quicker and easier using the correct brushes?  Thank you for a very informative post.
